Delhi NCR
The capital region is really three places: Delhi for government and embassies, Gurugram and Noida for company offices. Many European firms run their India head office here.
The economy
- Delhi: government, embassies, international organisations, policy and advocacy
- Gurugram: corporate headquarters, consulting, IT and capability centres, automotive companies
- Noida and Greater Noida: IT, electronics manufacturing, media
Many European companies with a sales, regulatory or government-relations focus base their India head office in the NCR.
Where people live
- South Delhi (Vasant Vihar, Shanti Niketan, Jor Bagh, Defence Colony): green, established, close to embassies and international schools
- Gurugram (Golf Course Road, DLF phases): modern towers and gated communities close to offices
- Noida sectors near business parks
Getting around
The Delhi Metro is extensive and efficient. Cross-city commutes by road can be long; living in the same part of the region as your office helps.
Air quality and climate
Winters (November to January) bring serious air pollution episodes. Many families use air purifiers at home and plan travel during the worst weeks. Summers are very hot, with temperatures often above 40°C in May and June.
Schools and healthcare
The region has many international schools and large private hospitals. International health insurance is standard in expatriate packages.
Lifestyle
Delhi has a deep cultural and historical life: monuments, museums, music and food. Hindi is widely spoken; English is common in business.
