Language
Learning German from India
German is the single most useful investment for Indian professionals aiming at Germany or Austria. A realistic plan gets you to B1 in under a year.
The levels that matter
- A1: minimum for the Opportunity Card if you do not have English B2
- B1: opens most skilled jobs and speeds up permanent residence for Blue Card holders
- B2: standard for nurses and for many recognition procedures
A realistic timeline
With 6 to 8 hours of classes a week plus daily practice:
| Goal | Time from zero |
|---|---|
| A1 | 2–3 months |
| A2 | 5–6 months |
| B1 | 8–10 months |
| B2 | 12–15 months |
Certificates that count
Goethe-Institut, telc, ÖSD and TestDaF certificates are widely accepted. Nurses often take profession-specific exams such as telc Deutsch B1–B2 Pflege. Check what your recognition authority or employer accepts.
Where to learn

Tips that work
- Study a little every day rather than a lot once a week
- Speak from the start, even badly
- Learn the vocabulary of your profession early
- Take the exam as soon as you are ready; certificates open doors
