Talent mobility to Europe · Market entry into Europe and Indianamaste · bonjour · hello

Tech and IT

Technology is the largest professional corridor between the two regions. Indian engineers work in tech teams across Europe, and many European companies run their largest technology teams in India.

From India to Europe

IT specialists appear on shortage lists in most EU countries. Software developers, cloud and DevOps engineers, data engineers, cybersecurity specialists and SAP consultants are especially sought after. Many tech teams work in English, which makes the sector easier to enter than healthcare or trades.

The main routes

  • EU Blue Card: available in most EU countries for degree holders above a salary threshold. Germany also accepts IT specialists without a degree if they have at least three years of relevant experience, at a lower threshold.
  • National highly skilled schemes: for example the Netherlands' highly skilled migrant scheme, Spain's permit for highly qualified professionals and Denmark's Pay Limit Scheme.
  • Intra-company transfers: many Indian IT companies move staff to client sites in Europe through ICT permits.

Our EU Blue Card guide compares thresholds, and the Netherlands IT guide covers one of the most popular destinations.

What makes candidates stand out

  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and Kubernetes or security credentials
  • A GitHub or portfolio with real projects
  • Clear, concise CVs in European format (see our CV guide)
  • Basic knowledge of the local language for life outside work, even when the job runs in English

From Europe to India

European banks, insurers, carmakers, engineering groups and software firms run global capability centres in India for engineering, product development, analytics and finance. Our guide to global capability centres explains how they are set up. European professionals often go to India to lead these centres in their first years, or to transfer specific know-how.
