Logistics and driving

Europe needs truck and bus drivers and warehouse staff. India is building new freight corridors and logistics parks, and European logistics firms are investing.

From India to Europe

Heavy-goods vehicle drivers, bus and coach drivers, and mobile plant operators are among the shortages highlighted in the 2025 EURES report. Many European haulage companies now recruit outside the EU.

The licence question

An Indian driving licence does not automatically allow you to drive a truck or bus professionally in the EU. Professional drivers generally need:

  • an EU licence in the right category (C, CE, D), obtained by exchange where allowed or by passing local tests
  • the Certificate of Professional Competence (Code 95), obtained through initial training
  • a digital tachograph driver card

Some employers organise and pay for this training. Our truck drivers guide explains the steps and the warning signs of bad offers.

Warehouse and logistics roles

Forklift operators, warehouse supervisors and logistics planners are in demand in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Poland. Logistics planners with ERP or transport management system experience can sometimes qualify for skilled permits.

From Europe to India

India's investments in dedicated freight corridors, logistics parks and ports have attracted European logistics groups, shipping lines and warehouse automation firms. European expertise is valued in:

  • cold-chain and pharmaceutical logistics
  • warehouse automation and robotics
  • port and terminal operations
  • supply-chain software

Business opportunities

  • Freight forwarding and customs services for EU–India trade, which should grow once the free trade agreement enters into force
  • Indian logistics firms opening European hubs, especially in the Netherlands and Belgium
  • Joint ventures in warehousing and last-mile delivery
